People have very strong opinions about everything these days, and somehow even setting goals has gotten caught in the fray. I like setting goals, they tend to be stepping stones to a bigger goal or something I just want to change in my life permanently.
I don’t set many goals like “workout everyday for a week’ or “be a pleasant human for a whole day” because they tend to lend all the excitement to finishing that goal and being able to do the opposite of it, instead of just being something I would like to continue doing all the time so there’s no “finish” or prize at the end.
That said, I wrote out some goals mid January and have stuck to them, so here’s a few things I’m working on doing this month and beyond:
- I am vowing not to pay for a workout for the entire month of march. This goal works because when march ends the point isn’t to be done working out just to see which classes I really think are worth my money and time. Also, if you’re unfamiliar working out in NYC ain’t cheap. I’d like to compare how much money I save not spending on a dime on workout classes for a month. If you follow me on instagram you’ll know I’ve been going hard taking classes almost everyday and some days doubling up! The benefit to you all is I’m going to share some at home workouts that I LOVE. I’d like to disclose that because I teach classes there are some places that I get free class, so I don’t have to pay for these workouts. I’m going to limit myself to 2 free workouts a week (because c’mon I can’t just not take advantage of a free workout). I’ve got some old workout videos I might use when I’m feeling uninspired but aside from that I plan on writing out my own and sharing!
- I’ve decided to cut down on my shit TV watching, but don’t get it twisted I will never give it up. Teen Mom, all the housewives, the challenge on MTV, all my shit. I’m vowing to cut back during the week.1 hour of tv a day is all I’m giving myself. When I start reading a book I’m never wishing I was watching trash television, it’s just easy to fall down the rabbit hole and 3 hours later your googling twitter fights between housewives (I did that last week).
- Practice yoga everyday. This one is open ended, I’ve learned that even as little as 15 minutes of yoga is so beneficial to my sanity. Helps me call down, re focus, and stretch out. So cheers to practicing yoga everyday.
Changes I’m continuing to make that I started in January –
- Stop eating processed sugar I am addicted and need to just get over it. Special occasions like birthdays and shit are an exception. (I had one slip up, and I ain’t mad at it lol)
- No social media unless posting, I need to just read a damn book. Ever closed the instagram app, only to re open it seconds later because you’re brain dead and your body is just going through familiar motions? NO MORE! I’ve shut it down, I more than often don’t care at all about what I’m looking at so trying to step away from it.
- I committed to moving my body everyday, I shared awhile back that I gained weight during my 200hr teacher training because I was traveling every week and in class every weekend. That kind of snowballed over the holidays lol but since the new year Ive been back on my grind and feeling good.
- Read 4 books a month, last month I read 6 but I know that won’t happen every month :).
- Stop ordering and eating out, I have ordered delivery 3x since January 9 which is a huge feat for me. It’s so easy to order out in NYC that I got carried away. Now I enjoy cooking quick meals for myself and knowing what’s in my food.
What goals are you working towards this year? This month? I want to know!
More to come on home workouts, great health and wellness books to read, new recipes to try, and my favorite food finds for march!
